Wolverhampton High School for Girls

Post by resmum »

Does anyone have any information about the tests for this school? We currently live in London so don't have any local parents to talk to.

Particularly, how many girls apply to do the exam and what sort of pass mark is expected?

We are using the NFER papers as recommended by the school but are finding the NVR sections quite difficult compared to the others.

Dear Resmum

I am no expert on Wolverhamton High School, the following may be of interest, it's an extract from counties admission booklet.

Wolverhampton
Girls’ High School
Tettenhall Road, Wolverhampton,
WV6 0BY
http://www.wghs.org.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Tel: 01902 312186
Fax: 01902 312187
DfES Number: 3365400

Headteacher: Mrs J G Lawton
School Type: Foundation
Specialiam: Languages
Admission Authority:
Governing Body of the School
Pupil age range: 11 - 18
Pupils on roll, Jan ‘06: 739

Year-7 Admission Limit: 108
Year-12 Admission Limit: none
(i.e. new pupils being admitted
for the first time)

If the school receives more preferences than
there are places available the admission criteria
on page 70 will be used to prioritise all applications.
In such circumstances, some applicants will clearly
be unsuccessful. Therefore, it is advised that
parents/carers consult the admission criteria before
submitting their preferences.

In respect of admissions for September 2006
546 parents expressed a preference for this school
and 342 of these were first preferences. The
number of places allocated was 108

The number of appeals heard for this school
in respect of September 2006 was 44, of which
3 were successful.

There is no guarantee that a similar situation
will occur for admission in September 2007.

In addition....

With a report like that it looks like a good school!

Wolverhampton School for Girls sets examinations in all four subjects:

Maths
English
Non-Verbal Reasoning
Verbal Reasoning

All the examinations are multiple choice and set by NFER (familiarisation packs would be those produced by nferNelson - see website bookshop)

I don't have much detail about the type of papers, but I can confirm that in an average year about 600 girls sit for the 108 places available.

Hi,

My niece started at this school last September abd really loves it. It is a very strong language school (Yr 7 take 3 languages).

You could also look at Queen Mary's in Walsall and also Thomas Telford (depending on where you will be living.)

There are also a number of Independent Schools in Wolverhampton if that is an option for you.

Hi,

My daughter like to sit for 2008 exam. It would be really helpful, if some one answering the below questions:

1. What type of exam this school conducts:
2. Standard type or Multiple Choice.
3. Recommend Books.
4. Useful web sites, if any.

Please help me and Thanks in advance.
