Exam technique query
In CEM style exams, can anyone advise me whether when they are told they have one minute left on a section is it advisable to go through any remaining questions in that section shading boxes / circling answersin the hope of maybe gaining an extra mark or two?
Re: Exam technique query
Yes, if the child finds that they have spare time to do that. Especially as, once they are told to move on, they won't be able to revisit that section at the end of the exam.
Re: Exam technique query
I thought the question implied that the child didn't have spare time. That's the point. In a multiple choice scenario, if they haven't finished at one minute to go, should we be telling them to stop what they are doing and just randomly guess the remaining questions? I think the answer is "yes". ( Probably not all sections will be multiple choice though)Ed's mum wrote:Yes, if the child finds that they have spare time to do that.
Re: Exam technique query
Yes. You're quite right. I read it incorrectly.
Re: Exam technique query
Absolutely! Never leave a multiple-guess question unanswered!
Re: Exam technique query
Thanks for those replies. They confirm what I had always thought. However, I understand that last year, just before starting the exam they were told NOT to do this.
Also, I have read that on some multiple choice exams there is a twist - marks are deducted[/b ]for wrong answers to adjust scores for random guessing. sometimes only a quarter of a mark per wrong answer but still a bit of a caveat to lots of guessing. Does anyone know if Warwickshire marking takes wrong answers into account like this?

Re: Exam technique query
I certainly have not heard that this is done.
There would not be any harm in contacting admissions to double check this though, for peace of mind.

Re: Exam technique query
Worth checking, i suppose - but it sounds like an urban myth to me. Can't see how it would work.
Re: Exam technique query
I agree Katel.
