Student Insurance

Post by temple01uk »

Hello,

as my daughter is off to music college this September I was wondering if it was wise or beneficial to invest in student insurance. The halls she is staying in are covered, but they do not cover anything outside of the building.

Does anyone have experience with this, and are there any recommendations as to providers.

cheers

Hi

I checked up on this and found that my DD was covered up to £5K on our home insurance. She is also covered for up to £2K on individual items such as musical instruments. We are with Direct Line - worth checking with your insurer.

Although home insurance can sometimes cover items away from home, if you have to make a claim, your insurance will go up.
The students insurance covers items in their room and not out of the building. We decided to get separate insurance for his phone and laptop. He can claim as many times as he wants and the insurance stays the same the following year.

Also need to check that they are covered if there is no evidence of forced entry - normal household insurance usually doesn't but some specialist student policies will.
