Simon Langton Boys

Wondering if anyone has had any experience and could give me feedback on SLBG. In particular, girls in the sixth form. How well do they fit in and how is the school generally. You could PM me if you wish. Thanks.

Goodness - girls in the sixth form of SLBS?? It would never have been allowed in my day! (won't reveal how long ago that was.... )

Actually we did have a joint "oxbridge entrance" class with the boys round the corner but I'm interested to find this happening now. Does it happen in the opposite direction? Is it just a few girls who can't fit their options in at SLGS or is there wholescale resorting amongst both schools and others?

Simon Langton Boys takes in girls for sixth form only. I am not sure when this started. Don't think SLGG takes boys though. Would be interesting to find out why they decided to take this route. I am trying to find out how the girls cope in a boys school and how well they do in their A2's.

SLBG seems to come up on the Sutton Report Oxbridge school hitlist but SLGG doesn't. In your time, (and I won't ask you how long ago :)) what was the intake to Oxbridge like from SLGG?

Certainly at least two of us got into Cambridge in my year (Maths & Nat Sci respectively), can't remember about the other place.... There used to be a board up in the entrance hall with all such illustrious names engraved in gold leaf - feel free to guess which one is me! Possibly one or two each year to each?

Yes, found out that SLGG is also co-ed.

Haven't had much luck on this site finding out about girls in SLBG (guess none of us have girls in the sixth form there).

I am now wondering if anyone has direct experience, or knows anyone that does, of the SLBG in general. I am considering it for my DD. Is there anything that makes this school stand out?

Experiences of how students are taught, approach of the school, ethos and overall view of the school. How well do they do, particularly in the science subjects, at A level? You can PM me.

Thank you. :?

The girls' school has excellent science results too - do you particularly want her to go to the boys? I understand that the girls' 6th form is slightly easier to get into, if that's a consideration!

Thank you all for your replies.

Greta2, I received your PM. Thank you for the insight.

My DH seems stuck on the boys school for my DD, because of high entry into Oxbridge. I have just received Prospectuses from both schools and the girls don't seem to do too badly either. So both hubby and myself are at crossroads. I have to think about the distance as well. We are about 19 miles away by car and about an hour by rail with two changes and a bus. Decisions, decisions.

For those of you just starting out (11 plus) and considering secondary school choices, try as much as possible to make your decisions with both GCSE and A level results in mind. Certainly makes life easier later on.
