Re: University Living Costs
I would have thought that after bills and travel, £80 was enough... but then I'm not a student these days.
Re: University Living Costs
Agree that £100 should be Ok so would ask for a record of expenditure to demonstrate why more is required. It might show that more is needed or that there is frivolous expenditure or that she has no idea where it is actually being spent & the act of having to keep accounts might reduce expenditure!

Re: University Living Costs
£80 per week for effectively food equates to £11.42 per day. I think this is just enough for food, especially if she doesn't make lunch and buys it but nothing else. Maybe an extra £20 per week for going out would be acceptable but wouldn't it be better if you encouraged her to get a job?
Re: University Living Costs
Assuming she has access to a proper kitchen then food should be alot less than £10 a day (no reason not to have sandwiches for lunch) but there are other things like toiletries which can add up for ladies!!
Guess it rather depends what she is studying as to whether its reasonable to expect her to get a job during term time. But if she has a heavy timetable that doesn't allow getting a job then she won't have much time for socialising so wont need money for it!
My 2 Dcs both have heavy timetables and plenty of self-study work so it wouldn't be fair to expect them to work during the term as they would have no time left to partcipate in any student activities. I guess I might be harder on them if they spent their time out drinking rather than in what I see as productive activity!!
