maths question help!

please help with this question

4 friends A,B,C,D have lunch together
Although each eats a differently priced snack, they share the bill equally
Yesterday, this resulted in A paying £1 less than the cost of his snack
B paying £3 more, C £4 less and D paid £4.

What was the actual price of the snack that each friend ordered?

If they shared the bill equally and D paid £4 then they must all have paid £4.

Therefore the real prices are
A - 5 (4 + 1)
B - 1 (4-3)
C - 8 (4+4)

and as the bill was £16 then D = 16 -8-1-5 = 2
