First Posting......appeal advice for Bucks

Post by sportsmadmum »

Here goes.........be gentle on me!

Son failed 110, 118. He goes to a very high achieving prep school.

All his practice papers he flew through...getting lowest 89%.....and he took to it like a duck to water.

Head has given him a 2:2 recommendation......

However his CATs were not brilliant, think VR was 117, can't remember the others.

Spelling 137

Sorry I cannot remember much more!

His exam results in the summer were more encouraging......he came 12th out of 40, and got higher academic marks than 8 of the boys who took and passed the 11+, four boys (who took and passed the 11+) were higher than him; bearing in mind most boys didn't take the 11+.

He is top sets for Maths and English.

He has been told that if he were to do Common Entrance exams he should be doing the higher tier exams.....meaning he is a very bright able boy, and should be looking at high achieving Independent schools The Head has stated though that Common Entrance levels are not really understood by the 11+ appeals panel. and not really worth mentioning. Higher tier are GCSE standard. This to me shows that he is capable.

He is predicted Level 5 SATS (if they did them) as they stopped doing them a few years ago when all pupils were achieving Level 5 year after year in all three subjects.

In Maths they are already working at Year 7 levels.......

Help!!!

What should we do now? We have no extenuating circumstances at all, except lack of sleep for nights on end, and a badly behaved child as a consequence!

Any help wpuld be so very much appreciated as we really are in a quandary as to what to do!

You can but put your case to the panel, and see what they think.
However his CATs were not brilliant, think VR was 117, can't remember the others.
Could you look them up? Is he stronger on the maths/science side? Have there been any other CATs or alternative reasoning tests?

Important that the head explains all of this when providing support for the appeal.

The panel will appreciate your honesty. I assume the sleeplessness was stress related? Does he usually react in this way when under pressure?
