Re: Deloitte hiring direct from schools
This is what my OH did. Started off in a bank and sat exceptionally hard specialist qualifications and gained the highest marks of his contemporaries with a degree. The bank acknowledges the qualifications but universities don't so when he applied to sit an MBA he was told he needed to do a degree from scratch eventhough some of his qualifications were post-grad level equivalent.
So in theory this is a good idea but only if you stay within the same sector. OH now needs an MBA to further his career, even with 13 years experience, as his prior qualifications stand for nothing in other sectors.

They have been very quiet on what accountancy qualification is being studied for. I believe that ACA (or CA in Scotland), CIMA and ACCA are only open to graduates, so this may be a bit of a red herring. It does say a professional accountacy qualification, but I'm not sure which.

Why?Looking for help wrote:...ACA (or CA in Scotland), CIMA and ACCA are only open to graduates...
If it is true, it is very stupid.

Sorry when I was training in Scotland many years ago your degree had to be relevant. I know that nowadays your degree does not need to be relevant, but was under the impression that these qualifications were post graduate.
I wouldn't have thought it was stupid, it is the way it has always been (unless it has changed recently)

I don't think you have to be a graduate to do a chartered accountancy qualification - ACA - membership of the ICAEW. Certainly you didn't use to have to, and I don't see why they would have changed it.

In Scotland (ICAS) you had to be a graduate, it may have changed now though.

Re: Deloitte hiring direct from schools
I am ACCA and left school at 16 with O levels, just did loads of on the job training and supported day release and ended up professionally qualified at 24, on my 2nd house etc...having earned all that time and was ahead of my peers. But then I think it does catch up with you eventually, and you need the extra something to reach the top quite often...
Re: Deloitte hiring direct from schools
The professional bodies themselves make no stipulations on this, it is the firm offering the training contract that makes those stipulations. I did not have a degree, so had to take all the exams, foundation stage up. My OH on the other hand, did, so he had certain exemptions. Exemptions are offered relevant to the relevance of your degree also, so an accounting degree would offer rather more, than a history degree for example. There have always been firms willing to offer training contracts to non-graduates, it has been the larger firms like Deloittes and PWC who were graduate selective. Not that it really makes any difference of course..we all have to sit those final tough exams..and I know MANY graduates who didn't make it

I trained with what is now PWC (the C part) , and knew no non graduates, I work now in a large mulitnational and the training for CIMA and ACCA is only offered to graduates Until Deloittes say what qualifications they will be encouraging the school leavers to embark on, I'd say hang fire .
