Please remind me why I don't want to be an English teacher!
Now that my youngest has started school I've an awful fear that I may venture towards a little part time work, if I can get some. I used to be a HOD many years ago, but everyone tells me that it's changed tremendously over the last couple of decades and that the paperwork now is truly horrendous. I'd love to hear from all those at the chalk face (sorry, interactive whiteboard )whether this is true?
I'm actually considering also applying for Higher Level TA work in a primary school. Less money, but less stress methinks?

What about supply teaching?
If you don't need a guaranteed income the rates can be good & you avoid alot of the paperwork.
I think it has become harder to get work though as schools are avoiding employing cover teachers, but using less well qualified staff instead.
A few years ago our LEA was running 'return to teaching' courses..

Thanks. Yes, my original intention was to do a bit of supply and this would definitely be my preferred option, but as you say schools tend to use cover supervisors now. I've contacted Capita, on line, but haven't had a response.
I also tried to get cfbt one to one work, but this tends to go to existing staff.
I don't have a TESL or TEFL qualification so hadn't really considered it, but thanks Belinda.

What is cfbt one to one work? Is it the intervention programme to improve numeracy and literacy skills?

Are there any home schooling 'centres' near you where you might get some private work?
Or specialist centres for children who have been excluded or cant go to school? - guess you might need extra training for these but DC did some work experience in one and found it very rewarding.
