order of preference- confused why parents want to change ?

Post by QUEENMA »

I have been followng some posts regarding order of preference for the grammar schools...Can someone please check my understanding ?

If I give the following order for dd in Oct this year :

A
B
C

If she manages to have score that guarantees her a place in all three schools then she gets allocated her first choice.
If she doest not get into A, but can be offered a place at B - she will be offered so, without considering the fact that B was only her second choice - Is this right ?

The reason I ask is that Non such seems to declare its scores before the application deadline. So for example if my dd scored say a sure shot entry score - we still put Non Such as our second choice, and then failed to get into our first choice school , we would still get into Non Such won't we ?
Iam confused that parents seem to be changing their preference once they get to know the scores - why ? What do you have to lose ?

Please help !

Please don't worry - you have it exactly right. Your DC is in a list for each school you placed on the CAF - These individual school lists do not make any distinction between first, second or other preference it is strictly based on the over-subscription criteria.

The LEA will then allocate you with the highest preference for which you qualify.

People should check very carefully before trying to change CAF preferences as some LEA's treat them as late applications and therefore subject to different rules to those in the normal admissions round.

If you are still worried contact your admissions team or choice advisor. They should be able to set your mind at rest. :D

edited to add. The equal preference system is explained in more detail here http://www.elevenplusexams.co.uk/school ... nce-system" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks mitasol for reassuring me...it just did not make sense why some parents were wanting to change their mind based on scores - Iam very sure they have extremely good reasons - just wanted to find out what those reasons are !

Sorry to be a pedantic Queenma but if your daughter really wants to go to this school please spell it correctly.
It's Nonsuch not Non Such.
I have a daughter at Nonsuch. She hates it when it is not spelt correctly.

Um, that should be either 'pedantic' or 'a pedant', catcool.
