Out of Catchment qualifying scores

Post by ManYou »

Anyone know what the out of are qualifying score is for Alty girls?

My son went to Alty boys last year and on the results letter we received it stated that he had passed.

It also stated that as a guide for out of catchment boys they should be comforted (or not) in the fact that places were offered to boys scoring 351 or more....just wondering if the girls had received a similar letter?

Alty Girls have a different oversubscription criteria to Alty Boys and high score does not come into it.

AGGS has a catchment area of 8 miles radius centred on the school. Once you have passed the exam it doesn't matter what score you got. 423 is as good as 334. First they take "looked after" girls, then siblings in catchment, then other girls in catchment, then sibs out of catchment and then other girls out of catchment.

The 8 miles is a lot bigger area than the Alty Boys catchment area, so you can easily be in catchment for AGGS and out of catchment for AGSB. AGSB, of course, doesn't have a sibling rule.

Thanks TM. Correct me if I'm wrong, I presume a girl with 334 living one mile away has a greater chance than a girl getting 423 living 7 miles away?

Also, does anyone know if places were offered to girls out of catchment?

Yes, the girl on 334 living 1 mile away would get in before the girl on 423 living 7 miles away.

I have no information as to how far AGGS went out this year's offers. Hopefully someone may be reading this who can chime in with some info. I know there are girls in the current years 7, 8, 9 and 10 who are from further than the 8 mile boundary, but how many, I know not.

You could always consider making a request to the school for the info under the Freedom of Information Act (and then let us know the answer ;) )
