Help - Question on past Maths paper
Hi All,
Please help. Here's the question:
The ages of Henry, James & Toby add up to 104. Henry is twice as old as James and James and Toby are twins. How old is Henry?
I worked out the answer to be 52. Can anyone share how best to arrive at the answer in a logical, step by step method that a 10 year old can understand.
Thanks

Re: Help - Question on past Maths paper
As Henry is twice as old as James, he can replace both of the twins in the original formulakaytee1916 wrote:The ages of Henry, James & Toby add up to 104. Henry is twice as old as James and James and Toby are twins. How old is Henry?
Henry+James +Toby =104
can become
Henry +Henry = 104
therefore Henry =52

Please, could anyone advise a book with this kind of exercises: word problems involving algebra?
Thanks in advance!

sorry I can't but if this is the type of question that comes up frequently in the exams you are aiming at, it might be a good idea to construct some problems of your own?
