Specs for kids - where to go for funky (not too expensive) ?

DD1 usually gets hers from Boots and is happy enough with the standard range, or else we have added £20 on occasion.

She is 11 now though and going to start secondary school and I think she should go for something funkier...

Anyone recommend where they have a nice kids range?

How about good old Specsavers???
or are they not funky enough? I get mine from there so perhaps they might not be so cool for young ones.

What age can kids start wearing contacts from?

I've never ventured to S S!!!

But I will have to soon as have free eye test voucher from work for there.

Sadly I always pick horrid specs as I am so blind I cannot see what I am trying on

But will look for DD - she will speak her mind, no doubt

SS pretty good I reckon - the local branch are really friendly and the range of frames quite wide.

They also have a dinky photographic system - where blind as a bat individuals put on the "new" frames - press a button - put their old specs back on and then look at a digital picture of themselves

My DC use Vision Express and have had a good choice eg Bench, etc

Youcould always try them on in Vision Express and SS and then buy from glassesdirect...

My DD has worn glasses since primary school, she used to be quite happy with the kids range from SS but since she started secondary school she prefers the designer ones at Vision Express as they seem to have a wider choice for pre teens & teens ie Miss Sixty, Oasis, Ted Baker etc. They are more expensive even with the NHS childrens voucher off I usually end up paying around £80 but as she wears them all the time I think its worth it. She's 13 and has also just started with contact lenses so more expense

My ds2 was telling me about his friend in Y6 who wears glasses with a photochromic tint- allows lens to go darker outdoors and lighter indoors... cool

Vision Express is the best we've found for a fashion conscious teenage spec wearer. We've also gone to glasses direct. You can have 5 frames on approval to try on for a couple of days - that was loads of fun!
