multiplication grids

Post by fatbananas »

Hi, Patricia re-drew my attention to these on a thread elsewhere about speed. I remember doing these as a child but I can't remember exactly how I used them! Does one start off with all the numbers in order and then the child fills them in until they get quite fast at filling them in? And then jumble up the numbers a bit, so they get fast at seeing two numbers together and just knowing the answers?

Any assistance on learning/ getting speedy at timestables would be really welcome. DS is feeling very competitive with a couple of boys in his class but I don't really know how to help him. :? Does straightforward chanting help?

Thanks Yoyo, don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before that computer games would be particularly effective in building up speed, in any skill probably, and those games look brilliant. As for toilet humour - he's a 7 year old boy, so think that one's going to be a winner!!
