madsdad wrote:Hi we currently live out of the area. If my daughter passes for one of the grammar schools are we then able to legitimately move into the area just before we fill in the choice form? This would move us up a category in the admissions criteria. We don't want to move house if she doesn't pass but if she does we will be moving into Trafford.
I admire your timing if you can manage to move in the tiny window between getting results (not all are out before the CAFS are due in eg Sale) and the CAF going in (last year it was 31st October)! Assuming you cannot do this.....

You will need to check each school you are applying for because they all have their own rules.

AGGS, for example, says:

"1.8 a) Applicants moving into the Catchment Area after the parental preference forms has been received, by their home local authority but before the end of November 2011 prior to offers being issued will be given consideration if: a) Evidence and legal documentation to the effect they have purchased or exchanged contracts on a property is produced and proof of disposal of the previous home.
b) For leasing agreements a minimum term of twenty four months is required and legally supported documentation produced and proof of disposal of the previous home.
c) In addition, you may be required to provide proof of residency. d) Parents must inform the school of any changes to their address or circumstances."

Loreto refers to Trafford's rules. Looking at last year's arrangements these appear to be:

"Moving house after sending in the Secondary School Preference Form
You must inform the School Admissions Team immediately if you change your address as this may change your child's priority for a particular school. If you move home your application will be reviewed and as a result, any offer may be withdrawn.
If you change your address by the 7 January 2011 your application will be considered in the light of the new address details.
If you change address after the 7 January 2011 your application will be considered from your previous address. If you are not offered a place for your child at your preferred school/s your application will be considered in the review for allocation decisions in April 2011 from your new address.
The Authority may require proof of residency i.e. exchange of contracts relating to the purchase of a property or a copy of a signed 12 month rental agreement (minimum 12 months) and proof of disposal of the previous home."

Please look carefully and double check by calling the schools you are interested in to confirm how they will treat your application.

You are welcome. As I said, give AGGS admissions a call and ask about the distance. For what it's worth, I know several girls in Y7 there now who come in from Didsbury which is 7 miles away, Knutsford which is a similar distance away and the east side of Warrington. Not sisters, either. They must have been admitted on distance.
