Three groups of numbers
My DS & I are struggling with the type
X(y)z A(b)c d(?)f
Has anyone posted a logical approach to this that we can follow. I will ask his tutor to go through it with me next week, but in the meantime one of his questions is beating me!

Probably one of the hardest type of question as it involves a good grounding in KS2 maths and a bit of trial and error..........on a personal level I can crack them in the morning but not late in the evening.

Re: Three groups of numbers
Thanks - they are the only type he really has trouble with I'm worried he will get bogged down with them. The first one we had trouble with was:
25(50)5 24(40)6 27( )3
I think this one is divide the number on the left by the one on the right and add 10 (took about 10 mins to get that!)
The second one is:
6(15)11 9(16)15 4( )11
I will be embarrassed when someone shows me how easy it is

Re: Three groups of numbers
using the format a(c)bscary mum wrote:25(50)5 24(40)6 27( )3
c=a/b*10 (the left number divided by the right number multiplied by 10)
so I make the answer 90
Re: Three groups of numbers
Yes, sorry I got that one, I just didn't put the answer!! I wrote add 10 instead of multiply by- sorry! And the other one?

Re: Three groups of numbers
I think the answer is 17.
Ie. a(b)c.
b = (c-a) + 10
Ie. a(b)c.
b = (c-a) + 10
Re: Three groups of numbers
The second one, you take the left number from the right one and add ten. 11-6=5 5 + 10=15.
