Method and Application of Maths

Post by 999 mum »

How does this exam fit in with the Maths GCSE?

I had never heard of this qualification until a few days ago.

I'm not sure what you mean.

There is a pilot twin GCSE which has two differently named GCSEs - might that be it?

I think so, so you get two GCSEs? Does the level of maths differ from the higher level GCSE?

All the boards offer this but see details above.

It is the same syllabus as a 'normal' GCSE but with some additional content - methods is about 'doing the sums' and 'application' is about using maths.

Thank you for providing the info so promptly.

Why would a child (or is it the school?) choose these exams over the standard GCSE?

Usually all the pupils in a school do this award - it does give the child two chances of getting a GCSE!

Also, for a few additional topics, you end up with another GCSE.

So it would not be a problem carrying onto to doing A level maths afterwards?

No, I can't see why it would be a problem.

Thank you very much for answering all my questions. I can see me having to post a lot more over the next few years.

(And he has only done the induction day yet!)
