HELP.....How do I calculate score's ??

Hi Can anyone help.........my son is trying to get a place in one of the Southend grammar schools and we are outside catchment so I know we are up against it.
He recently sat a mock and got 49% maths, 70% english and 80% VR.
I understand VR counts as 50% of the overall mark....does anyone know how to work out the overall percentage that he got?
I think he needs a minimum of 65% overall for outside catchment.
Any help would be appreciated

49+70+(2x80) = 279

279/4 = 69.75%

Just bear in mind a performance drop of 5% or so can occur on the big day

Thank you...I find it all so confusing, especially when they start talking about weighted and standardised scores! I think he needs about 311 on that but I'll stick to the percentages as I've no idea how to work out that one.
Good news is though at least he's on track.

65% is normaly nearer 330.

You are right....stick to %....trying to figure out how they get to the scores will drive you crazy
