RE : I know many of us have chosen KEGS & CCHS as 2nd choice

Post by shagor21 »

I know many of us who are living in Redbridge have chosen KEGS /CCHS as 2nd choice and our 1st choice is/are ICHS /WCHS.
The reason we have chosen KEGS/ CCHS as 2nd choice becuase of the distance ( i think) ?
Any other reason you have chosen KEGS & CCHS as 2nd choice ?
What would we do if our DSs/DDs were invited to go or passed their exams for both 1st & 2nd choice schools ?

Let's discuss.

Thanks.

If you passed 1st and 2nd choice you would be automatically be given your first choice. So there is no discussion, however, if you subsequently change your mind then you have to go on the wait list for your 2nd choice. Although you would be on the waitlist you would probably get in.

Last year we actually placed CCHS as 1st choice because we thought it just had the edge over WCHS. So not necessary that all redbridge residents will put WCHS first.

Thanks for informative message. Is your DD going to CCHS since you placed that as 1st choice? Did she pass for WCHS? Does LEA inform about the results of 1st choice & 2nd choice schools?

I had 2 pupils who took the Redbridge and Essex 11+ exams last year. Both passed both tests. One chose CCHS as the parents preferred it. The other chose the school nearest to home. Both pupils were girls and both sets of parents said they would be happy with either school.

I attended KEGS open evening and the headteacher actually said that if you want this school it should be your 1st choice. He actually said that if you think you live too far and your child can not cope with the traveling than KEGS is not for you.It changed my mind and made it easier for me to make ICHS my 1st priority. My DS did take their test. You will be offered your 1st choice. No doubt about it.

Hi nayab69,
So you put KEGS as you second choice, correct ? Because of the distance or traveling issue, correct? Would you consider to go with your 2nd choice if 1st choice was not successful?

Thanks.

Hi moved,
From your information , I understand that LEA /Redbridge does give a chance of selection if a child passes both test. Could you confirm my understanding? Thanks.

Hi shagor21,

If a child passes his/her first choice he/she will be given his/her first choice only.

If a child passes the first and the second choice of schools he/she will be given his/her first choice only.

If a child fails his/her first choice then his/her 2nd choice will move up and it will be his/her first choice and if he/she passes the 2nd choice which is now have become the first choice then he / she will be given a place for their 2nd choice which is now their first choice.

However at the last minute if you decide to go for the 2nd choice because you have passed both and had been offered the first choice and you don't want to take it and you want to go for the 2nd choice, you have to let the relevant authorities know and the child will be put on a waiting list according to the child's rank for their 2nd choice.

I hope this is helps.
