NHGS-has DN passed?

Post by Gogi »

Dear all, relatively new to the calderdale schools system. Nephew achieved overall score 192. Rank 116. Does that guarantee a place?

His first choice is EGS but they are OOC so its not cut and dry but probably have a better chance than ever this year? Second choice is highly competative so although in catchment, vey difficult to call and then NHGS third choice.

The letter was quite clinical and doesnt give you an indication of success of even clearing the pass mark? if there is one or do they put a line after the top 300 ish.

How does is work and and what are DN options? if they dont qualify for choice one and two, is NHGS a definate looking at his scores?

Many thanks!

Hi Gogi,

There is not a pass mark for the Calderdale schools. The 310 available places are simply offered to the highest scorers in ranked order. With that score your nephew will be offered a place at NHGS if he is not offered a place at either of the schools he ranked more highly on his CAF. If he is offered a place at a higher preference school then his 116 rank will be bypassed and the place will go to the next ranked student.

Hope that helps.

Many thanks Mitasol,

Its such a painful couple of months for parents and the assurances are so welcome

On a personal note doesnt seem much dialogue on EGS? understand the appeals were end of last week? perhaps i should start a new thread?

Thankyou for your invaluable advice.
