Latymer Upper School 2012 entry

Post by HOCIBETH »

Has anyone had an interview (or rejection) letter from Latymer Upper School yet? I have no nails left!

The head said at the exam that letters would be posted on Monday and we would get acceptance/rejections on Tuesday. Interviews are on Sat 4th February. A third of applicants will be interviewed for I think he said 160 places (but that includes the prep school too) Good luck save those nails for Tuesday...

As pebbles says, they have 160 places in Yr 7 including those coming up from the prep school, which I think is about 50ish but they all had to sit the exam too. So there are about 100 places for those coming from other schools and I think they said they would interview 300 kids for those. Of course not all those who they offer to will have Latymer as their 1st choice.....

To add more numbers in - I think about 900 took the exam.

So 900 applicants > 300 interviews > 150 places.

If they are interviewing 1/3 (300) of applicatns surely that must be done on different days or will they really interview everyone on 4Feb?

Certainly seems a large number doesn't it Inga. I don't know about the format of the interviews, but I guess if they have group interviews and then just a few minutes with an academic tutor... and if there are multiple interviews going on at once? Do the prep school children have to interview too or just pass the exam?

I am sure they will interview all 300 in one day. We have done this before and you are given a time slot and many parallel interviews take place with all staff pulled in to do it as far as I could tell. It worked quite well but was really busy. 6 formers ferried the children back and forth.

According to their on line calendar they start interviewing at 8.30 am on the day so will be an early start for some . Speaking to parents who have kids at the prep, I think they interview them before Feb 4th but they still do need to pass and those few that they think won't make the grade are politely advised to 'explore other options' well in advance. All interviews are individual but lots going on at once as far as I understand it.
