iPad - literacy and numeracy

Post by mystery »

We are considering buying an iPad for family use. Are there any apps any of you use that are good for literacy and / or numeracy that primary age children would genuinely enjoy and choose to use?

P.S. I don't know much about iPads so please don't blind me with jargon.

I love my iPad.
I downloaded The Tutors VR and vocab builder apps (free if you like them on FB) and a times table quiz app. I am working on using a variety of media for prep to make it less boring. DD has also started playing scramble and has got better pretty quickly. She always goes through the found words list so I think that is good for vocab too.

The iBook app (and probably the kindle one) have the option to highlight a word and get an instant definition which is good for more challenging reading. I would say the kindle is easier to read books on as it's smaller and lighter but the iPad does so much more

I've been wondering about this as well. I've heard there are some good VR apps but don't know which ones.

Reading mum: when you wrote about The Tutors apps and mentioned they were free to download on 'fb' - did you mean fbook? I've just tried looking there and can't find them.

Yes - one book with the face. I think I found them via the AppStore first but then there was a link to FB which gave a code to download free. Maybe it was an offer that as expired. They were not expensive even if you end up paying.

I see. Maybe it's these parental controls DH has put on the computer which prevents me from any kind of 'store' or 'shop' ....

My DH has an Ipad and I love it. Quite often I browse EPE in the evening. ITs great for quickly looking up information, or for browsing he web.

Sorry, I haven't answered your question.
