Help needed on letter pattern :-O

Post by heartmum »

On DCs VR practise paper (no answer sheet) there is the following letter sequence:
DWL MEX YNF GZO :?:

Can't work out the next sequence?

Help please  Thanks :)

I know the first letter of the next sequence is P.
The first letter of the next sequence follows on from the last letter of the previous one.

Just need a few more hours to work out the rest.
Just spotted the next pattern.

If you write the sequences vertically instead of horizontally it's easier to spot the pattern.
So

D W L
M E X
Y N F
G Z O
P H A

I think.
I have never before seen one like this so I'm not sure what the 'quick' strategy would be.

   now you've set it out like that I can see a pattern but would wonder how a DC would be able to do that in a test without the help of the lovely colours to make it stand out!

Perhaps there is another way ... hope they don't have many of those in the paper!!!!

I used colour because it was easier than a wordy explanation (you saw my first attempt).
Maybe using arrows to show the diagonal pattern? Tbh, I think that once DC know this type of question exists, they probably spot it quickly. What does Patricia's sticky say?

Not seen one like this for a long time!

Where does it come from? Not a stock 21 type of question.

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

DWL MEX YNF GZO

1st letter plus 1 = 2nd letter of next set
2nd letter plus 1 = 3rd letter of next set
3rd letter plus 1 = 1st letter of next set

G plus 1 = H[second letter]
Z plus 1 = A [third letter]
O plus 1 = P [first letter]

answer = PHA

I have been teaching VR for so long that I can just spot patterns!

I also see compound words and hidden 4 letter words when reading the newspaper or a book.

How sad is that!

Where did you find this question Heartmum?
