First time 11+ mum
Hi there, I am new to the 11+, with my fist child sitting it this September in Kent.
Am struggling to understand the scoring system - i.e. what marks count as a "top score" etc? EJ is a mid-July birthday, which I guess helps with the standardisation system.........
Can anyone explain the scores to me???

My dd is doing the Kent Test this September too. If you look at the stickies at the top of the Kent Forum there are some details on what raw scores were needed for different ages to achieve the top score of 140.
Edited to add details from that post for last years Kent Test:
To achieve 140:
Aged 11 years would need the following raw scores (percentages have been rounded)
VR: 63 out of 80 questions - 79%
NVR: 50 out of 72 questions – 69%
Maths: 40 out of 50 questions - 80%
Aged 10years 6 months the required score is:
VR: 61 out of 80 questions - 76%
NVR: 49 out of 72 questions – 68%
Maths: 39 out of 50 questions - 78%
Aged 10years the required score is:
VR: 58 out of 80 questions - 73%
NVR: 48 out of 72 questions – 67%
Maths: 38 out of 50 questions - 76%
To achieve 120:
Aged 11 years would need to achieve the following raw scores
VR: 42 out of 80 questions - 53%
NVR: 38 out of 72 questions – 53%
Maths: 27 out of 50 questions - 54%
Aged 10years 6 months the required score is:
VR: 39 out of 80 questions - 49%
NVR: 37 out of 72 questions – 51%
Maths: 26 out of 50 questions - 52%
Aged 10years the required score is:
VR: 36 out of 80 questions - 45%
NVR: 35 out of 72 questions – 49%
Maths: 24 out of 50 questions - 48%

Hi again
I have edited my last post with details of the scores from last years Kent Test.
The stickies are messages that the moderators have 'stuck' at the top of the forum so they are easy to find - normally important and useful information. If they weren't 'stuck' at the stop they would get lost amid the mountains of messages that get posted

Are you looking at a super selective school that a high score is needed in to obtain a place or a grammar where a pass is required?
The scores might not look daunting but having been through it 2 years ago with my eldest daughter, when the times comes it is very daunting and seems to consume your whole life! (Although that might just be me with a slightly obsessive personality
)
Are you doing any preparation with your DD? We are working through some Bond books and have some practice papers to go through too.

We're probably looking at just passing for now....rather than achieving top scores!
Agree with you, though, it IS all rather more stressful than I thought and we're only in February!!
We have had a weekly tutor since September, who seems very good. Could not have done it without the extra help as our school do not actively prepare them at all.
By the way - what does "DD" stand for? Please excuse my ignorance........

Other ones you may come accross are:
DS = darling son
DH = darling husband
OH = other half
We too are hoping for the local grammar school which requires a pass not a high pass, thankfully.
I don't think Kent primaries are allowed to prep towards the 11+, I know my daughters school certainly don't. We used a tutor for my eldest because I didn't have a clue about it all. We are not using one this time though as my daughter really wasn't keen and as I knew more about what was involved decided to try the DIY tutoring route. So far so good, but only time will tell I guess
