Hi,
Please can anyone tell me roughly how many children sit the Birmingham Grammar school test?
Thanks :D

The most recent published number is 4,143 for the Nov 2010 exam (the year the Consortium came into existence, so for the first time it includes those applying to Bishop Vesey and Sutton Girls), from the KE Foundation's report and accounts for 2010-2011.

Obviously, that's a much, much lower number than the scaremongering numbers you'll see in the press.

Does anyone know the proportion of boys to girls who sit the exam?
With DD done and dusted I am wondering if DS will face greater competition to gain a GS place.

He will, I'm afraid.

There aren't any published numbers; the indications are that there are slightly more girls applying than boys but it's impossible to put a definite figure to it (you could always try a FOI request...). However, there are also more places available to girls, so the net effect is that it's tougher for boys - hence the higher qualifying scores for the boys schools.
