Size of cohort
I've seen several posts describing the size of a particular year's cohort. Do you happen to know whether next year's Year 6 cohort is large, small, or average compared to recent years?
I have a daughter in Year 5 looking to get into Wycombe High or Misbourne, depending on her test results in November.
Thanks.

The cohort for 2008 entry will be similar to this year and last year.
The year before that saw a blip, resulting in quite a number of children at the southern-most boundaries of Bucks not getting places at the 2 Challoners Schools, and having to be bussed to Chesham High or elsewhere. That was the reason for proposed change to catchment areas last year. It caused a total furore and eventually Bucks abandoned it.

The numbers of pupils in Bucks school in Jan 2006 is posted on:
current Y5 would be Y4 numbers -

Of course this does not include any who might apply to Grammars and not go to Bucks Primary schools .....

Many thanks to both of you !
Can we assume from this that the eventual allocation profiles for next year's Year 6 are therefore likely to be similar to this year and last year?
Or does it not work like that ?

Hi Dad40
It doesn't necessarily work like that - it all depends on how many children who pass the 11+ live closer to the school than you, and how many applications there are for each school. Schools go up and down in popularity from one year to the next, and that can increase or reduce the distance from school for the Allocation profile.
The Allocation profiles for Wycombe High and Misbourne for the last two years were as follows:
Wycombe High:
2006 - All catchment applicants offered, out area siblings and out area girls to a distance of 14.36 miles.
2007 - All catchment girls offered, out area siblings and some out area girls to a distance of 7.712miles
Misbourne:
2006 - All catchment children offered plus out of area siblings and some out area to a distance of 5.135 miles
2007 - All catchment children offered plus out of area siblings and some out area to a distance of 5.712 miles.
As you can see from that, on a similar sized cohort, the allocation profile for Wycombe High was quite different over the two years.
Hope that helps.

Many thanks again.
We're not in catchment for Misbourne (3.3 miles away) but we are in catchment for Wycombe High.
Both therefore look easily achievable. I can't imagine the geographical limit for Misbourne would narrow that much......(?)
