Strong and inclusivedrama at North London schools for my DD?

Hi, my year 5 daughter is blossoming as an actor at the moment - shes always loved it but suddenly soared. She is trying for a drama scholarship at Marylebone but unlikely to get it as they only offer 3 a year.

Im keen for her to go to a school where she can really enjoy lots of acting - we're currently looking at Highgate, Habs, South Hampstead, Francis Holland and Latymer Upper... and I was sad to hear recently that Latymer Upper has very limited drama and often people dont get in.

Does anyone offer drama scholarships? And where do you think drama is strong?

I've driven past the Sylvi a Young Theatre School numerous times. The Amy Winehouse Foundation is also offering a full scholarship.

I guess Im looking for a school that is academic and strong in drama, rather than a stage school.... I think it prepares her better for life

My DS goes to Aldenham - very strong on drama. They have shows and do it at GCSE and A level- the Head is very into it and very involved. There is involvement with the NYT and visiting workshops. It is compulsory in Y7, 8 and 9.
Not as academic as the other schools you mentioned but if your child has potential they will thrive.

Does it have to be a private school? There are GS with performing arts status in Bucks.

It's not an Independent school, but Latymer (grammar school) is extremely academic and has very strong drama that can be taken at GCSE and A level. The specialism is Arts.

Mill Hill Country High School is a state partially-selective that is very strong on drama, dance and music. The vast majority of year 7 entry is from non-selective siblings and catchment area but they do have a limited number of drama/dance selective places, as well as academic and music places, each year. Like many partially selective schools - the children in the top ability streams do extremely well.

My DS is at Latymer Upper and it seems to me that drama is a very big deal indeed. Productions and places offered at RADA etc are always big news - even to the extent that you wouldn't know anything else happened at the school! Performances of one kind or another take place several times a term and there are opportunities for students of all ages to get involved both on and off the stage. If your DD is into drama and you want a good academic education I can't think of a better school in West/North London.

It is hard to get in to these days - but definitely worth giving it a go?

Dame Alice Owen's has a very strong drama department. No drama places but 65 academic ones and 10 music. Take a look on the website. DG
