Distance from Wallington Girls High School

Post by Booklady »

Hi - does anyone have the figures for distance allocations for Wallington Girls High School for the past few years? They don't seem to be on the published docs - and we are trying to figure out if niece stands a chance at getting in on distance at 1.3km from the school (assuming she qualifies of course).

Grateful for any thoughts!

Thanks :D :D

someone mentioned 5.25 km last year ... but not sure sure if that is catchment or the actual distance??

and 6.7km here .. again not sure if that means they actually got a place..

Herman's link doesn't work but the admissions policy can be found from this link on the school's website

My understanding is that 6.7km is the catchment area

The top 100 girls are taken wherever they live then up to 80 in catchment depending on how many already taken by their other criteria

So your niece will count as in catchment

Thanks both - but sadly these don't completely answer the question - I suspect the information may not be published!?!

We are interested to see how likely she would be to get one of the 80 in catchment places based on her distance (the top 100 go on score).

Any comments from people who got a place in catchment (not on score) last year would be most helpful!

Thanks to all

:) :D

The way that I read the admissions policy was that the 80 places will be allocated on score as well, but will only look at the scores of those girls that live within the 6.7km distance criteria.
Up to 80 places in order of highest score to those whose permanent place of residence on the closing date for applications within the Pan-London Co-ordinated Secondary Admissions Scheme in the year prior to admission is within a 6.7km radius of the main entrance to the school building.
(from admissions policy)

Its certainly a bit confusing isn't it? I read that it is on score - but also closest to the school.

Can anyone clarify??

This is what I saw .....

From the admissions policy - after the bit quoted above :

(Distances will be measured in a straight line from the child's home address using the computerised Geographical Information System maintained by Sutton’s School Admissions team, with those living closer to the school receiving the higher priority.)

80 places are also on score, but for those who are in catchment. Distance comes into play in case of tie (see 4.7).

The sentence about distance in 4.4.4 is confusing and perhaps should not have been included in that clause.

Both the School and Sutton Council do not give info about the cut-off scores. May be some one with some letter from school giving scores may be able to help.

I am sure some forum member would soon come along with this info, spl those who got the place from waiting list. That would be very helpful.
