Independent school in Wales?

Post by nina1on »

Hello, could someone advise on good private schools around Cardiff, please? Which Local page on this forum should I look if I want to see info on Cardiff schools? Thank you very much

Hi Nina

We don't specifically have a Cardiff or indeed Welsh section to the forum. As far as I am aware there is no 11 plus in Wales so it hasn't really come up before. Re Indies in the area - might get some comments on this bit of the forum as many people may be familiar with the area.. What sort of thing are you looking for? Girls / boys / mixed / prep / senior / sporty / musical / academic / boarding?

Thank you Hermannnuster. I am looking into academic and co-ed. But boys or girls separately would be great to know too.

Hi Nina

Not so much Cardiff - as Brecon - but you can look at Llandovery and Christ College Brecon - both very good schools.

Hi Nina

My son goes to Christ College Brecon and we're very happy with the school. We also looked at (and sat for) Llandovery College. I know that there are children at Christ College from Cardiff. I'm very happy to answer any questions / give more information either on this thread or via PM (private message).

I have no personal experience but I hear very good things about Llandaff Cathedral School from childhood friends friends who send their dc there.

dd is in Howells, Llandaff - girls only till sixth form

Cathederal, Llandaff - mixed, no sixt form at the moment, but will have one soon

close by is St Johns

and the only other one I know in Cardiff is Kings Monkton which tbh I've not heard great things about!
