UKMT maths summer school
Has anyone's child been on one of these? Dd1, y10, just got an invitation after the IMO, in Birmingham in July. I'm just being curious, would love to hear any previous experiences

Wow, congratulations.
(What score do you need to achieve to get the invitation?)

She got 102 on the IMC - Hamilton cut off was 96 iirc. And then 32/60 in the IMO, which was enough to get her a distinction (top 25%) but not a medal (top 100). So tbh I'm not quite sure how she got invited, lol, as although obviously she's done really well, it doesn't seem top flight to me. They said they don't only look at the numbers, so I guess she did something impressive somewhere!999 mum wrote:Wow, congratulations.

Is she at a state school?
Perhaps it was the questions she did and the solutions that impressed?

I know that the UKMT are trying to reach beyond private schools that have the time to tutor/prep for the challenges to invite high scoring pupils from state schools.
Hope you got my PM!

Ah, interesting. They certainly don't do any prep for it at her school, but then neither do they stick very rigidly to the National/gcse curriculumGuest55 wrote:I know that the UKMT are trying to reach beyond private schools that have the time to tutor/prep for the challenges to invite high scoring pupils from state schools.

I still haven't found out. DS (y8) sat it and all we've been told is that he got an A. I asked what this was but I've not had a reply and if he did get invited (I'm sure he hasn't been) it would be sent to the school and they'd probably forget to tell me as they did with another boy a few years back!
Oh and absolutely no prep either!
