Surrey/Sutton grammar schools
Hello,
I've been reading this Forum for a while now, but this is my first ever post on any internet site.
My DD is in Y5 and with only 3 months to go for the exams, the stress is building up and the uncertainty is mounting.
We don't live in the catchment of any GS but are hoping to get an out of catchment place at one of the Surrey/ Sutton GS.
DD has been working well for the last 6 months or so, but I'm just not sure how much is going to be enough.
How many tests are we meant to do? We must have done over 50 tests so far.
I guess it'll be easier to make the journey with like minded parents, so here's me on this forum.

Hi SM
Welcome, you have come to the right place...
Have you put her in for any mock tests? These can be very useful for getting rid of last minute nerves and gauging ability within the cohort. The sutton grammar mocks are great, but i'm not sure if you'd be in time to apply now if you haven't already. 50 papers should be plenty (depending on what she is scoring of course) and with three months to go i'm sure that 50 will increase a fair bit.
Which papers are you using?
Laretta

Hi Laretta,
We've done a variety of tests, GL, Bond, Susan Daugthrey etc. Looking for something closer to the actual difficulty level now. What would you recommend?
Dd's scores have been between 80-90%. Not sure what that means on a relative scale.
Will try and enroll for the mocks.
Thanks for replying.

Hi SM
I have checked and there still appear to be places available for the sutton mocks on 16th June. If you go to Sutton grammar website and click on the link to the PTA, you will find the application form.
Walsh papers are probably the most comparable to the level of difficulty your dd will encounter in the real thing. Which area are you in and which schools are you applying for?
80-90% is a good place to be with three months to go, as she still has time to improve a little. i'm thinking she will need to be 90% + towards the end as you are out of catchment - that't not to say that she might not pass already on a good day. Have you downloaded the vocab list from patricia on this site?
