week just before exam..????

Post by guest2007 »

Any tips/suggestions on how to deal with the kids on/from the previous week of the test? I believe the schools are all open during the exams, so should they do any more practice in the evening after the long school days just before the exam days? Does these last minute practice helps or just "take it easy and forget about it till the exam" attitude helps? All your valuable suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Are you asking about the week before the real test?

If so, we did not do actual work.
What we did was to get out all the papers and books we had worked on and I told my child that he had practised very hard already and that what he knows is in his head and that it is impossible that he would not forget every technique, word, operation that he had learnt.

After the Pep talk, we just flicked throught all the work, discussed what type of questions they were and how he had tackled them before.

If your child has not sat any other type of exam,it's also a good idea to talk about the day itself, listening to instructions of invigilators and not to be afraid to ask if not sure of any exam procedure before the test starts.

Early nights, good food, stay away from anybody sick.
When children are stressed, they get sick very quickly and a little exams nerves can lower their immunity surprisingly quickly.

Thw worst thing is if the school gave lots of homework to be handed in the next day!!!

Dear guest 2007

Where and when is your child taking the test, this is a very unusual time of the year to be taking it.

Follows a link to some tips that I gave to the Bucks section, for last years test, it may be of some use.

Thanks very much for your reply.

The real test is actually in November.

Just realised that we have our cousin's marriage (very close) just the week before the real exam. We would be quite busy with that and might have few late nights as well. The marriage ceremony is not English style and it happens for 3/4 days with good involvement of close family and friends........... :x

So was a bit panic.....

Let them relax and unwind. Last minute practise will just make your child(ren) nervous. Watch some TV, have some family time, anything that will take their minds off the exam. Ban any food or drink that will keep them awake e.g. tea, chocolate etc. Let them even do the cooking if you're prepared to :)

The day before the exam: Make sure they get a good amount of sleep.
Make sure they get to the test place in
plenty of time.
Avoid last minute practice.

The morning before the exam: Make sure they get a nice, big breakfast.
If they don't manage a breakfast, if the
school allows, take a bar of chocolate
into the exam; it can make a difference.
Try to make the morning as normal as
possible. Do not talk about anything
other than what you usually talk about.

Equipment to take in: Pencil, rubber, ruler, watch.

Hope this helps and the best of luck!

:D
