11+ training at primary school

Post by Jean »

Is it true that C of E schools can train their pupils as much as they like?

Someone told me this yesterday. It's annoying if true because our (non-C of E) Head says our school can only do the familiarisation tests.

Dear Jean

Unfortunately, you have been a victim of playground gossip.

Bucks, state schools are only allowed to offer the familiarisation pack, containing 5 sessions [covering the 21 types] and 3 practice tests.

See section B/2

Patricia,

Thank you ! I still wonder whether a C of E school near me is doing more. In your experience, do some schools flout the rules ?

Interesting. I also once heard that certain state schools might be training their pupils more than the LEA allowed.

I raised it at our junior school's 11+ introduction meeting for Year 5 parents. The answer I got from the Head suggested to me that she suspected the same thing. I didn't pursue it though.

One of our local primary schools has an 11+ club - an hour a day after school from September til Christmas!

I would love to shop them, but I don't know who to!

Each Head has to sign a form saying they have abided by the rules -

Dear Kate

Can I assume this school is NOT in Bucks?

If it is then it should be reported....

If the school were shopped to Bucks CC, what are the council actually going to do ?

If they do nothing, they would be seen as not enforcing the rules.

If they get annoyed and imply that the school is "cheating"......well that doesn't exactly support their (and NFER's) claims that extra tuition is largely pointless !

It's not in Bucks - but if it were, who should it be reported to?

If they are a partner school i.e. entering pupils for Bucks 11+ they should be reported too.

Contact Admissions [admissions@buckscc.gov.uk] and copy an e-mail to Sue Imbriano - its her name on the Secondary admissions booklet.
