Surprising number of surplus places at some grammars.Wonder if this will be 'rectifed' next year by review process. :o

It is very concerning that once again there are quite a number of places available in some of the Grammar schools. It is no wonder the whole 11 plus system is under review. Schools such as Chesham Grammar should be able to set their own entrance examination after the school allocations and before the term starts as it is so sad that there is a class and a half empty. It makes you wonder if lowering the pass mark to 120 would address this problem. We must all wait and see.Dr Challoners it would seem is still the most popular Grammar school in this area.

I don't think you can conclude that about Dr Challoners because if we look at choices before qualification then there is a different picture.

Some parts of Bucks are also more heavily populated so again that biases the picture.

Could someone please explain whether a school shown in this table to have no surplus places, would mean that there would be very little chance of a child gaining a place at that school in Year 8 even if they qualify through the 12 plus procedure and that is their only catchment grammar school?

Yes probably - although one or two children might leave owing to a house move. Remember you can always appeal even if it is technically full.

Guest55 That is a very interesting comment regarding choices before qualification, it would be good if those statistics were also published as it would prevent parents automatically assuming that if one particular school was always oversubscribed that it was better than another school which had a lot of spaces after allocation. A very good point.

They have been published.

Certainly schools get this information as we've discussed it in the staff room.
