help with this one
hi dearies,
today my son did IPS daily test papers (short pink ones 10 qs per paper) on test no. 6 questoin no.6 there were 2 possibilities of answers and both possiblts. were as choices on answer shhet. so i am posting this one if smone wants to comment on it. we have to find missing word from 2nd group in this one.
FLINT {SNIFF} FLEAS
SPURN { } TREAT
and the choices on answer sheet are TRUSS, SPURT,TRUST,TRIED,PARTS.
well my son worked out TRUSS but right answer is TRUST. its confusing which one to choose. i hope in exams they won't get this type of problem. actually we came across with same sort of problem once before can't remember but i think it was something from IPS again with 2 possible answers DOOR and DOOM. thanks.

S comes from 5th on the right, 5th on the right from second group = TAnonymous wrote:

N comes from 4th on left, 4th on the left from second group = R
I comes from 3rd on left, 3rd on left from second group = U
F comes from 1st on left AND 1st on right = S or T
F comes from 1st on left AND 1st on right = S or T
I make that TRUST....AND ..... TRUSS
If its multiple choice then the publishers should only put in one of the answers...
If its standard then the publishers SHOULD not have put the question in...

If the F from FLEAS represents letter 4, then the answer would be "TRUTS". Therefore only the F from FLINT can be correct, making TRUST.

Dear Sally-Anne
You can come out from the corner!
The F can be represented from either side ie 1st letter from Flint OR the First Letter of Fleas. Therefore can be represented by the S or the T.
There is no rule stating that letters can only be used once. There is no rule that says you can use letters more than once. Its just something like, the middle word has been made using a formula, repeat that formula for the second group.
The 'words' that can be made are therefore TRUSS, TRUST, TRUTS and TRUTT

Hi Patricia
Now that IS interesting - my son was told that each letter could only be used once!!
I would have to draw the line at TRUTT and TRUTS though.
Funnily enough, Son 2 decided to look at the Tutors CDs today, and this was one of the two types that he lit upon. (I think that means I've had 8 days break from the 11+ in nearly 3 years!!)
And of course he found a glitch in one of the questions - off to the CD section to see if anyone else has posted it ... see you there perhaps?
