Free English resit

Does anyone have any opinions regarding this resit?

My concerns are:

OFQUAL validated the June results so there will be a need to maintain the standard;

Candidates who scored A* will not resit;

Candidates who scored A are unlikely to resit;

Candidates who scored B will therefore be the top entries;

The exam board will feel under pressure to award a similar percentage of B, C and D grades, so the results will reflect this.

DD got Bs in both her English GCSEs (As excpectedin both), but won't be resitting for those reasons.

I can see your point - whole thing is a nightmare!

My DS tells me he is not eligible for the free re-sit as it only applies to Year 11 students who took exam - don't remember reading that anywhere. So he will wait until January.

DS is now y11 and taking the exam, so not true. I'm going for both November and January for the above reasons.

From the AQA website:

Who would be eligible for the re-sit?

Those students who 'cashed in' subject awards in Summer 2012.

I think my son is therefore not able to resit in Nov as he did not 'cash in', module only (40%). Tbh not sure though!

Neither did DS and he will take the resit. DS hasn't finished his controlled assessment yet. He still has a spoken piece to do.

The school got this wrong! Strangely enough he is now sitting in January.
