9 sleeps to go!!

Post by harrydog »

Hi all,

Anyone else out there feeling that as time goes by they start to think the worse!

My DD came out ok after the test, so why do I have this niggling doubt! I do believe time plays tricks with the mind!

I'm wondering how you get invited to the extra information evenings at Colchester and Chelmsford? Do they invite all children who would have got the qualifying mark based on last years allocations? Or children who get a likely or maybe with the results letter?

Not that I'm thinking about it much!!

I know the feeling  ...... I'm getting more nervous as time goes on, DD came out of exam thinking she has done ok, but its very difficult for me to to judge exactly how it will go...for example, she skipped some VR questions (forgot to even guess them!!!) but she recons she did well in those that she answered, so I really have no idea what mark she will get..... hopefully she's got a good mark, and will have a place at GS, but as time goes on, I'm increasingly thinking very seriously about plan B and even plan C or D. I'm fortunate in having a few good local comprehensives schools (and a few poor ones), I'm just outside catchment for the one good local CS (but it won't hurt to try), she will only get into another if passes their assessment and then there is always my nearest comp which has a lot of potential. Hopefully plan A will succeed!!

The email on the 15th should give us all some useful info, but as catchments have changed and CSSE doesn't know which schools we are applying to, its going to be difficult for them to give really meaningful advice to all but the very top scores, say the first hundred or so boys and the first hundred or so girls, who will obviously get the GS of their choice, they will obviously get an invite to both Colchester and Chelmsford schools, the schools will be fighting over them! (I'm not sure if we are even going to given a ranking order, I hope they do.) Those with very poor scores will be told GS is unsuitable for their offspring. Those with scores in-between, who will possibly be offered a place, will also be invited, but with no guarantee of a place you are still going to be unsure until march.
I think we will be given the scores from last few years, for comparison; but with all the catchment changes it will be difficult to compare, next year will be easier as they can compare to us. I feel a bit of a guinea pig! I'm becoming increasingly nervous about it all and I have a growing feeling that I will have to wait until march to find out anything meaningful.
Oh well... maybe the 15th will bring the result I dream of, and not my nightmare! :)

Forgot to say, I think the visits to Chelmsford and Colchester are by invite only.
Has any one heard what is happening for Southend/ Westcliff schools? Are they holding any information meetings? :?

not heard of any meetings for Southend/Westcliff. My older DD is at SHSG so would probably know if any meetings planned as they usually get roped in to help. I'm very nervous - my DD thinks she did well on Maths and English but not so good on VR. She didn't finish and forgot to guess the unanswered ones too. She does feel that the ones she did answer were OK, so who knows. I have tortured myself calculating percentages of previous scores where I can see the DC scored just above the magic 303. Trying to step back a bit but have developed good plan B and C's!!! x

I'm in Southend and haven't heard anything about invitations to the Southend grammars. I'm also a primary school teacher in a Southend school and nothing has been mentioned there either.

Only 8 days to go now!

Oh, it's just getting stressful now! I'm trying to discuss alternative choices with DH and DS, but DH thinks there's no point in discussing it when we don't know he hasn't passed. I'm of the opinion that you should consider (and worry about in full detail!) every possible outcome!

I wish our catchment school wasn't so poor though :(
