Is 213 worth a gamble on KEA??

I found this site just before the exam and have found it very useful.

First can I congratulate all those who sat the 11+ and obtained the results they were hoping for....its a long waii til March!!

We looked at Aston and were very impressed........now we have the results in & its very close. As first time parents we are just after some opinions as to whether we are wasting a choice by putting KEA first.

We live far too out for BV, and assume we are too low for KEFW?

You don't prejudice your chances at the schools you list lower by putting KEA at the top of your list. As long as you've got one on there somewhere which you're certain you'd get, you have nothing to lose by listing them in the order you prefer.

Am finding it all very stressful, as Im sure all parents are.

We only looked at Aston & Five Ways. Those are our 2 choices. We assume putting Five Ways would be a waste of a choice?

If we put FW first would we jeopardise our Aston choice?

no - if you don't get into KEFW then your second choice becomes your first..

Ok - thanks. We thought if you didnt get your first choice, then you were not priority for you second choice. We assumed we might go onto a waiting list for our second choice (as we are 2 points away from the AQS). We are new to all this and are struggling to get our heads around all the advice and choices.

So if we put FW first, but dont qualify, they would look at out second choice Aston next. If DS meets the entrance level then he would be offered. Which waiting list would he go onto - or does it depend on the Qualifying Score? Apologies for all the questions!

This is my question as well.

If we put CHG as a first choice and if our DD is on waiting list for that one.. but is offered a place at handsworth (2nd choice)... Can DD still stay on the waiting list for CHG..

Plus.......can you be on 2 waiting lists?
KEFW is our "dream" choice. KEA is our realistic (and happy) choice. If DS isnt chosen for either, will he go on both waiting lists?

Yes your DC will be on both waiting lists.. Every child is on evey waiting list for each school you applied for..

Ah yes, IKEA, the Institute for Keeping Education Alive.

I suppose it beats the former Dcsf (Department for cushions and soft furnishings - or confusing statistical figures).

Now we have the DfE which is pretty boring as acronyms go

Going back to the original question (ahem!), in all honesty, a child is unlikely to make KEA on a score of 213. It is, as you will have seen on your letter, a few points lower than the 'last scores in' of previous years.

It is still worth putting it on your list, and will do no harm, but you must also ensure that there are other schools below that, which you would also be happy with.
