WHSG meeting info

Post by Just looking »

Just returned from the WHSG meeting.
Dr Paul Hayman the head of WHSG and also the chairman
Of the CSSE had this to say, "169 girls within the priority achieved a score of 303 or more".

I hope this helps.

Good news for in catchment, ooc still a bit in the dark. Points I noted:

Across both Southend grammars, there is a place for every ic girl with a score of 303 or above.

13 more girls ic passed this year (169). He expects WHSG to offer around 93 ooc places this year (on assumption the extra ic passes are split evenly between the 2 schools).

Last year 30 girls were offered a place at WHSG between March 2nd & August 31st

311 was the lowest score to be offered a place ooc by September 1st 2012.

With regard to the "green zone", girls with scores above 332 stand a good chance of an ooc place, but he wasn't guaranteeing anything. ;-)

I also heard him say that:

Around 30 places moved after 1st March and before 31st August.

I also heard him say that scores down to 303 have been accepted in the past after offer day off the waiting list. That was before he then said 311. So not sure if that is maybe just one year or that it was a late application/house move off the waiting list.

The document we were given said if you have scored 303 in or out of priority area then you should consider putting 2 or 3 choices on the CAF. The reason Essex admissions have given us 6 choices of school as apposed to Southend's 5 choices.

If I can remember anything else I will post.

Well done all.....very usefull information.
As with the boys (170), 169 girls achieved 303 or more IC. The interesting part is that it is not significantly more this year, a few of the extra 13 would of made it even if still OoC catchment anyway.
If the split is 50/50 it means about 69 OoC WHSG & 65 OoC SHSG, still a fair few.

This isn't necessarily the same as saying that 30 places were awarded between 2nd March-31st August; did he say both?

30 places could have moved because children were offered places at SHSG, St B's or an indie school?

I'm not sure I understand the distinction; 30 girls gained places because places offered were not taken up. I think he was just making the point that things can change after March 1st and not everyone offered a place will take it up. They might take indie places, move up the waiting list at another school and accept a place elsewhere, decide GS is not for them after all etc. etc.. 30 is quite high for 150 places, so I guess he was trying to offer some perspective.

Addition from the visit.
302 is not a pass so don't put grammar school on the list.
Every girl with a score of 303 in catchment will be accommodated in Southend school.
A score of 309 was assigned a place in the past
600 student took 11+ exam in priority area
311 was the lowest score that got a place last year
Waiting list is for ooc as all ic girls will get a place i.e no 2 different waiting list.
Dr Hayman personally re- marked 35 papers for student with borderline scores
10% of all 11+ papers remarked for clarity
No significant change in pass rate from the change to priority areas. 30 extra
169 girls have gained the score in priority area this year

99 DD ooc were admitted last year to WHSG
Sorry for any repeated info.
