VR Question Solution
HI ,
I am not able to figure out the following
1) PK is to PK as FA is to ?
Answer is ZU
2) Ronnie TED the black ball
Answer is LED
Can anyone tell me how these are the correct answers?

This is a reverse mirror code - P is the 16th letter of the alphabet (or the 11th counting backwards) and K is the 11th (or the 16th counting backwards)elevenplusprep wrote:I am not able to figure out the following

Mirrors of F (6th letter) is U (21st - 6th counting backwards) and of A (1st) is Z (26th - 1st counting backwards).
But as the relationship is reversed -> 1st letter of orignal gives 2nd letter of answer FA will give ZU
I agree though that there's no way of knowing this and FA would be an equally valid answer!

This question is only "good" as multiple choice. It should not be used as a standard form question for reasons you have stated.
I teach my children to check the whole section for mirrors before they start. If they believe the question is mirror or outside/inside mirror and the answer is not on the answer sheet they "do not panic" they just revert to their normal method.

Hi Patricia,
Isn't it wasting time scanning complete section for mirror type instead of solving all questions sequentially? or is there a quick method to determine if question is mirror or not?

There are a couple of things you can do to speed up the hunt for mirror codes. Firstly, from Patricia' previous posts, draw a line between M & N and then ask yourself: "Are these two letters from opposite sides of the alphabet"? If they are, they may be mirrors.
Secondly, from a past post by JaysDarlin, these are some very helpful mnemonics that can easily be memorised for instant recall of which letters are mirror pairs:
AZ Angry Zebra
BY Batty Yaks
CX Catty X
DW Dozy Worm
EV Electric Violin
FU Fat Umpire
GT Greedy Tiger
HS Hoppy Squirrel
IR Impatient Rhino
JQ Jungle Quest
