HELP FOR LANCASHIRE MUM! 1st TIME 11+

Post by izzywizz »

Does anyone know anything about the 11+ exam at Clitheroe Royal Grammar school? We are out of the catchment area but a few lucky children every year gain a place. The exam I know is in November however I don't know which exam board they use?
I have only just found this site and think it's fab and a fantastic support for someone like me, novice 11+ mum. I don't know where to begin to help my daughter prepare in the short time we have. HELP?????
The only information about the sort of level she is at now is the end of year 5 SAT results: reading 5, maths 5c and writing 5c. Where do I go from here? I don't intend to get a tutor for my daughter and we don't have much time,so I intend to prepare her myself. The only books with tests in we have are the Bond papers, are these any good? Should we use any other types of test papers ???
My daughter is also going to sit the entrance exam for a local independent school in the same month. Are the exams very different to a foundation Grammar school? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!

HI I agree the site is brilliant.

You may get more advice if you repost this in the Lancaster section.

The different areas have different types of 11+ and you will get area specific advice there.

Your daughter is doing well if she has level 5s at year 5. :)

Hi izzywizz,

Did you mean to post in Berkshire? Do you want your post to be moved and where?
You will get more help if you post in the right section.

Best of luck

Sorry, put it in the wrong section by mistake. Yes if it could be put in the Lancaster section, there does't seem to be a Lancashire section. could it also be put in the general section just in case someone from Lancashire comes across it? I would be grateful, not sure how to do it myself!!

Hi Izzywizz,

The exams for Independent and Grammar are different, Grammar schools tend to be more difficult. Clithereo takes around 120 students each year of which 10% are offered to children outside of their catchment area.

You can either look in your area for a tutor who knows the syllabus or work with your child using material readily available in high street stores. Oh you will need to apply to Clithereo direct get application form from the school as well as complete the Lancashire LEA application form.

Regards
Nigel.
