Is it worth the longer journey to Pates?
We have a decision to make. Do we
a) take the easy option and go for the closest GS
b) take the slightly more difficult option and travel further for better performing school
c) go the extra mile (or 6, without school bus!) to Pates
I keep telling myself that we should just stick to the easy option but you can't deny Pates has plenty of extras to offer.
DS would choose Pates but I think the journey on his own from Gloucester whithout the help of a school bus would be really tough.
Lots of you have done all of this before so please share any experiences.
Thanks

Yes for us it has worked despite a much longer journey to Pates than our other choice. This is on a private bus which is costly and means an early start. Must confess didn't really look at school results, purely went on feel of the schools and then tried to work out feasibility of transport. One year on and it's all fine.

You could try contacting Pates to see if there might be a car share option? I know they have advertised on school website etc. to help arrange these in the past. Sometimes that works well as if halves the driving and allows DC to go to school of their choice
Most public buses do not go up Princess Elizabeth Way/Hester's Way (past Gloscol) and DC would have to walk from bus drop off to Pates. Quite a long walk with heavy bags. I suggest maybe you could try public transport journey to get the feel of it or ask around your primary for another DC who might be going to Pates. The private bus is expensive and may not go near your area.

I would say consider which school specialises in your child's interests, or where you could see your child enjoying him or herself the best. They are all grammars. All have many very bright children and all have staff who are used to teaching (and coping) with them.
Ignore the travelling until you've decided the above.
