KGS exam is over

Post by Bestichka »

Just thought I'd open up this one to congratulate those who survived today's KGS exam - well done! Surely it was hard enough to have an exam this close to Christmas holidays - and for most DC, also coming after Round 1 of local state selectives.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Well done to all the DC who took the KGS exam yesterday. How did your DCs feel? My DS came out saying he was pushed for time on the VR and maths and found the English OK. I'm not really sure what to expect as he didn't do too well on the grammars. He has 1 more indie to go in a few days time, so I'm hoping he's doing his best.
Any ideas on numbers that sat KGS? They didn't seem as high as for the grammars!
Good luck to everyone!

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about interviews from KGS yet?

Still waiting here sgsgirl and was starting to get worried but spoke to three other mums of boys yesterday who have also not heard anything. Girls are done first. Of course, we could all just have been rejected

I wish KGS would confirm whether your DC is not going to get an interview at the same time as they say that he/she is going to. At least then you wouldn't constantly be worrying about post going astray.........

How many do you think were there on the day? It's usually about 500-600. So if only 300 get an interview then presumably looking at about a 50% cull.

Hopefully there will be a nice letter in the post when I get home this evening. :D

Good luck to you too. Did DS sit any others?

Thank you 2outof3, you are always very helpful. Yes I think the girls hear before the boys. The wait is excruciating...
I agree, if only they let you know if your DS didn't make it to the interview rounds then the waiting wouldn't worry you so much. Mind you, it did say in the letters that it may take up to 2 weeks before we hear anything. My DS has sat one other Indie, but we won't hear until February for that one. It doesn't sound so bad when you look at approx. 600 children sitting the exam.
Fingers crossed and Good luck for your DC too.

We are also waiting for my DS. There was a further exam last Monday for those who couldn't make 4th so maybe there's a little more delay. I have given up all hope and am despondent.....

For those of us who are still waiting, is anyone going to be brave enough to ring after Friday and ask whether they are going to get an interview? We know that if KGS don't offer an interview then you don't get an offer, so isn't it better to find out now rather than in a month's time?

I'm not sure what the done thing is in these situations. Presumably if one were to ring and ask a direct question about whether an interview is forthcoming after the publicised date (which is apparently this Friday - two weeks after the exam) then the admissions person would just have to say yes or no. It would be so much better if the school just sent out letters saying DS wasn't going to be offered an interview at the same time as they send ones confirming an interview place. At least everyone would know where they stand :?
