Estimating Imperial Conversions
From Bond "How to do 11+Maths"
A door is 5 feet 9 inches high. Which is closest to its height in metres? Circle the
correct answer.
1.5 m 1.6 m 1.7 m 1.8 m 1.9 m
We make it 1.8m; the book answer is 1.7m
(a) Are we right? (b) Is this a fair question?

conversion
However if you use the more accurate conversion rate
1 inch = 2.54 centimetres
then
69 inches is 1.7526 metres , which would (by convention) be rounded UP to 1.8m

If the question is a direct conversion question then you would need to use the most accurate approach.
If the question is an estimation then you need to use the easiest approach.

Mike
In the question above... which approach would you recommend?
