Post by moneypenny1 »

Hi everyone

Anyone's DD sitting the KEHS exams next Thursday/Friday?
Would be interested to know if the papers are standard or multiple choice format
Can anyone help?

Thanks :)

My daughter sat it last year - enjoyed it a lot and made friends! She didn't get a place, but we weren't expecting one tbh. According to some rather skimpy notes I made she had to do the following:

Day 1:
- A comprehension exercise on a poem about bronze cauldrons (possibly in a museum)
- Write a story using the same characters as were in the poem.
- Maths (including algebra)
- Verbal reasoning

Day 2
- Comprehension & comparison of 2 texts about travelling
- A story about where you'd like to travel to (she fancied the Amazon!)
- Maths like SATs

Sorry not to have more details. My daughter was always quite grumpy and tired after the exams and getting any information out of her was like pulling impacted wisdom teeth...

Hello moneypenney

I am sorry no one has replied. There has been plenty of talk about the boys school next door on here. Have you had a look at their website? Indie school exams are often standard format and the sample questions indicate they give indicate that too, so unless someone with direct experience comes along with anything different I would assume that too. You could always calk admissions at the school and ask - they are usually prepared any questions you have.

Regards,
UmSusu

Edit: I see turtlegirl has answered some of your questions - she was the lonely voice asking about girls' options last year :D

Thank you Turtlegirl and UmSusu.
I have rung the registrar but was told they did not tell anyone the format of the papers
And tbh the sample papers don't really give you much either
All seems very hush hush!
But one thing I can work out is that its not going to be an easy exam.
Oh well, DD can only do her best. (She is doing level 6 Sats in both English and Maths in May) but they are much easier than some of these independent school entrance exams.

Thanks for your help :)

Unfortunately I cannot offer you any advice/information on the exam, because my daughter will not be taking it until next year. But good luck to your daughter!!! I really hope she manages to secure a place.

Our daughter took the exam two years ago. She claims to remember absolutely nothing about it now, but I do remember that she said at the time that the practice papers she did (all standard format indie past papers) had been similar to the actual exam.

Thank you Bubbles and Mike1880 for your kind words and valuable info :)

Mike 1880, any idea as to the difficulty level of the papers?
Which indie school would you say they were the most similar to?

My DD has worked through lots of past indie papers from many schools all over the country
They vary a lot in the difficulty level
She is prepared as well as she could be, just see what happens on the day.
Maths is her strong point

Any idea as to the number of places available? Is it still about 78?
And how many girls actually sit the test?

Many Thanks

PS Good luck to all who are having scholarship interviews and awaiting results

Hi
My DD will be doing the KEHS exam tomorrow.
Can anyone tell me the stats: i.e how many girls approx. take the test, how many places available, how many scholarships (inc. full-fee) etc?
Good luck to those taking the tests.

Good luck sss...my daughter's taking the paper tomorrow and Friday as well.

She's been very relaxed about it all, just kept up with her reading and worked on her maths skills. I've not placed any pressure on this as I see it as a bonus if she passes (she got relatively good marks in the KE paper and wants to go to C H Girls) but I have said that i'd like her to pass just to prove a point really. If she did get the qualifying mark we would have to consider whether its the best choice - the pupils who attend Indie schools are a different breed, iykwim.

Good luck anyhow.
