Assessment Tutorial?

Assessment Tutorial?
Just looking through the process his school make now they've handed in their GCSE options.
They will have individual interviews in the next month or so, then few weeks later an assessment tutorial, with confirmation of choices you've been allocated at the end of it.
What exactly is an assessment tutorial? Are they intending to test them in their chosen options somehow? I'd have assumed it would have been more of a discussion from previous teachers and looking at grades to see if they are a suitable fit for the course??
His final choices were: History, Ancient History and Computing. Two of which they have not previously studied at school.
