What have our kids chosen?
DS has now made his choices and now I spend my time waiting and worrying about whether or not he gets his choices
Core subjects are
Eng Lit
Eng Lang
Maths
Statistics
PR(half gcse)
French
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
Then hopefully:
History
Ancient History
Computing
So that will be 11 1/2 GCSE's. I'm kinda hoping he's not put into either set 1 or 2 for maths or he'd be taking on another GCSE or As module when they are already taking two gcse's in maths anyway, the workload as it is is already plenty

Re: What have our kids chosen?
We don't have our options meeting until next month and guess what the options evening is the same evening as DS2's last parents' evening - both DH and I need to go to both meetings so I can see us hairing down the bypass and arriving at the options evening in a fraught state of mind.
Pretty sure DS1 is heading for the core subjects plus German, History and Geography but he may yet surprise us but I think we can safely discount Art and Music before we even get the listings

Re: What have our kids chosen?
I feel it's not necessary to take so many, but seems to be the norm where DS is:
English Language
English Literature
Maths
Statistics
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
RE (they need to take the course, exam optional)
Then he's chosen (after major consultation ie zero ) :
French
Music
History
Computing
I've no idea whether these are good, bad or indifferent, but they're the subjects in which he's most interested which sounds good to me. I was initially concerned that he was dropping Latin, but presumably still having French keeps his options open languages wise?
Doodles, our own options' evening isn't for another few weeks, but DS plopped down the booklet and calmly informed me of what he wants to do!

history
French
Spanish
RS (short)
drama
10.5 (could be worse, having seen OMIH's list)

Re: What have our kids chosen?
The numbers some schools make them take now is huge. I guess it keeps their options open but now they are terminal exam the amount they will sit at once is concerning. My Ds (year 10 but to make you feel better about your numbers) is taking:
Eng Lit
Eng Lang
Maths
Statistics
French
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
ICT
Options:
Latin
Geography
Music
Astronomy
Total 13

Re: What have our kids chosen?
I hope he's OK with them Minesatea? Perhaps they're easier than when we took them where anything over 8-9 was unheard of (at my grammar school anyway! )
Surely 8-9 A*s is quite sufficient?

Re: What have our kids chosen?
I think they may start to reduce numbers over the next few years. DS has unil March 8th to decide but has 3 options once he has chosen triple science (which he will). Will be 3 of geography, Spanish, PE, computer science or business studies. Anyone got any views on these?

Re: What have our kids chosen?
Just wondering what school year your DC are when they have to choose. My DS is in year 8 and will have to choose soon.......seems a bit early as he only started GS last year!
