Has she got a place?

Post by Nathair »

Hi guys! Long time, no "see"! Life has been progressing fairly boringly at Chez Nathair. DD1 is doing fantastically at Westholme, she loves it and is now at picking GCSE's! It's DD2's turn now; she passed the exams for Westholme and Skipton, and did get a bursary, but unfortunately not a big enough one. (To be fair, they give DD1 so much it was always very unlikely they would offer the same to DD2 when they could help another family too.)
DD2 always preferred Skipton anyway, since looking around when DD1 was choosing. We live quite far OOA, and a place certainly isn't a given, however, I got the standard email a few days ago (top box) and of course I tried to log on early (hey, it's evening somewhere.) What I get when I log on is in the second box. When I click on her name though, I just get the form I filled in, nothing says offered or anything. I think it's time to celebrate, what does everyone else think?

If I go on the NYCC site i just get the original preference form (although I don't think NYCC do online notifications).

I'd be interested to see how far out SGHS have gone, given that a lot of in-catchment appeared to have passed this year.

Nathair is in Lancashire who have discovered the 21st century

The SGHS and EGS results are the most unpredictable of all!!- it may well be that many of the OOC for SGHS opted not to put it down on the CAF, thinking that with the distance they may not have a chance, hence there may be rather fewer looking for places. Also SGHS had a couple of years of being very undersubbed at March 1st... very much depends on how many girls there are in catchment

We're in Colne. So, not too far away from Skipton, but because the area goes North rather than south, we're well outside it.

Can you ring up and find out? NYCC say specifically they won't give allocations over the phone - but if you're just seeking clarity maybe Lancs would tell you?

Just seen this on the Lancs CC website:

"When will my child be allocated a secondary school place?
Offers of secondary school places will be issued on Friday 1st March 2013. On-line applicants will also receive an email informing them that they can access their school offer on the evening that the offer letters are issued."

That sort of sounds like they won't update the system til this evening.

Yeah, I know it's not supposed to update until this evening, but yesterday under "Secondary Applications" it still said
The deadline for secondary applications has passed. The results will be available from 01/04/2013. In the meantime, any complete applications you have already made can still be viewed below.

Like it does under Primary Applications, now it's changed. That's what makes me think its updated early, and also why I'm not actually sure what to think.
