Susan Daughtrey Bright Sparks test papers

Post by gloucestermum »

Hello all,
I am sure this has been asked before so my apologies:
How do you think the difficulty of these papers relates to the actual NFER set tests? I only ask because DS is finding them easier than others we have done, for example he got 71/80 within the time allowed tonight(we are in Gloucestershire and the tests are set by NFER).It would be really useful to know just as a guide with 7 weeks to go to the actual tests!!!

Dear Gloucester Mum and Sue

I put them on a par with shop bought NFER for the first 15 types, please remember Daughtrey and the real 11 plus [ Bucks and many areas ]will have 21 types. The extra types are HIKNOS, as identified by IPS or types 16-21 on the Tutors Demo.

In addition the vocab is a tad harder in the Bright Sparks series [ as is the Practice tests completed in school]

They are graded within each set, so 1 is easier than 4 and 5 is easier than 8.

hi patricia you mentioned 5 is easier than 8. is it just to make it easier to understand about difficulty level or there are 5 to 8 Nfer Nelson papers available to buy...sorry but you are dealing with a gone case here :( . thanks.

I'm confused. I have a pack of NFER VR papers labelled 11 a 11b 11c 11d so is 11A easier than 11D and I have a pack of SD bright sparks PK1 papers 1234 so is paper 1 easier than paper 4. I have ordered PK2 but currently out of stock so would this contain papers 4 5 6 7 ???? :?

hi G,
my son completed all SD test papers and scored 75+/80 in all of these. in fact he started joking about these ones and before the tests (from test 4 onwards)he asked OK mum i am ready to tharsh next SD paper. mind you he just finished Nfer last week (all 4) and again 81+/85 in 50 mnts. (i told him just stop after 80th but he insisted to complete). so i think if difficulty level is about this much then we shouldn't worry too much although next 3 months oh......... ' good luck to you and everybody.

NFER papers and Bright Sparks

Post by Orson »

The four NFER papers are 11a, 11b, 11c and 11d. For some strange reason they get easier as you go from a to d so I advise that children tackle d first, then c, b and a. I don't know why this is so. There are no other NFER papers.

As for the Bright Sparks papers, my experience is that they are a little harder than the NFER papers. They get increasingly difficult as one moves from 1 to 4. The same goes for pack 2.

Yes, Walsh is far more challenging. Children ought to be tackling these tests in the 2 weeks immediately preceding the actual test (if at all) and not before. If they can get 75%+ for these tests the REAL THING should be a breeze.

Good luck everyone.

What is/are "Walsh" papers?

Walsh is the author of a series of VR test papers. They are similar in format to the multiple choice tests carried out by many LEAs and more challenging than most other papers one can buy.
Be careful not to give them to children too soon as this will only demoralise them if they are not ready to tackle them.
