Fast track exam preparation

Post by elizabethswan »

Would be very grateful for some advice, my dd has recently changed primary schools due to underachieving, she was put in a special needs class and doing year 2 and 3 work throughout year 4, and I thought her abilities were better than that so changed schools. Straightaway she's doing really well in new school and her teacher thinks she is suited to a grammar school and would be well able to manage the work. However she is unfamiliar with many maths concepts as a result of her missing year 4, all the local tutors seem to be busy and have no slots; does anyone have any advice for resources I could cover with her at home, there is little point trying practice papers when she is as yet unfamiliar with all of the subjects. :)

Have a look at the 'What I can do in Maths level 3' to make sure she has covered that work. Then there is an equivalent level 4 booklet.

The 'steps to success' free resources contain these and others - online at

I would also recommend the "How to do 11+" books and work through them methodically, also work on mental maths techniques to help with speed.
